Because of expected ice storm on Sunday January 9, only 8:30 worship will take place onsite.

A Pastoral Word. . .

Does this logo look familiar?

It should. About a year ago John Krasinski premiered a special YouTube show entitled, “Some Good News” dedicated to sharing nothing but some GOOD news. It was welcomed by a world just beginning to struggle with the BAD news of Covid-19. Krasinski “anchored” his news while quarantined in his home. In each episode he discussed feel-good stories and invited celebrity guests to join in the fun.

And, good news for Karsinski, after eight episodes he sold his show to ViacomCBS for an undisclosed amount of money!

If the show was still airing, I’d ask to be a guest because there’s not just SOME good news---there’s a LOT of good news circulating around Redland these days.

Here’s my list:
  • We OVER subscribed the 2020 Expenditure plan! This leaves us with a “problem.” We have to decide what to do with $200K in unspent designated giving. Come to our Business Meeting on February 28 to help us deal with this “difficult issue.” The staff and Church Council have a few ideas (see other parts of this newsletter for details).

  • Worship attendance is WAY up! Thanks to the good ole Internet, we are reaching 500 people or more each Sunday!

  • Ladies’ Tuesday Bible Study attendance is UP! People from as far away as Kenya are tuning in every week! The same is true of many other Grace Groups. Former Redlanders who have moved away are “attending” Bible study via Zoom!

  • We have another money “problem” to solve. Beloved charter members, Buddy and Barbara Young left $198K to Redland in their will. We will wrestle with its use at the quarterly Business Meeting as well. See this newsletter for some ideas from staff and Church Council.

  • Redlanders have had OVER 3,000 marble-moving faith conversations! I love the sound of marbles moving in the morning!

  • Our youth had a wonderful Winter Retreat at Skycroft!

  • I have three more scholarships for men who would like to attend the conference at The Cove where Tony Dungy and James Brown will speak about their faith in Jesus.

And, I’ve saved the best good news for last:
  • Lord willing, we will have Sports Camps, Children’s Handbell Camp, and RBC Camp this summer!!

I’m praying God uses all this good news to cheer you up, for as Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

Keep the SON in your eyes!
Mark
