Upward Season 2023-2024

Upward offers developmental and instructional team sports for kids in Grades K-8 that challenge athletes to grow mentally, athletically, spiritually, and socially. Upward Basketball and Cheer season 2023-2024 information and registration are on our website. Registration deadline is November 2.

Have you ever wanted to do more for local missions but weren’t sure where or how to serve Upward needs you! Will you join RBC’s local mission field at the ROC?  Beyond being a great program for students, there are plenty of opportunities for adults and youth to serve.

Around 28% of our Upward Basketball and Cheer participants (out of a total of 480 kids – so far) have indicated their families do not regularly attend a church. We want to intentionally build relationships and connections with those who God is sending into our sphere of influence by recruiting Redland ambassadors or "Sponsors" for each team. Most teams have few Redland players on them and we want to reach all of the teams with direct Redland involvement.

What does sponsorship involve?

• Pray for the players and coaches on your team
• Send them encouraging cards/notes/email regularly
• Invite your team to Redland events 
• Attend games (Friday nights or Saturday) and cheer for your team signs in support of your team are encouraged
• Volunteer to bring post-game snacks
• Find creative ways to build relationships with the players and their families all season long (January - early March)

Every registered participant is required to attend an evaluation in order to complete their registration. Dates and times are in registration confirmation e-mail, please sign up via the Sign-Up Genius link. We need volunteers to help with evaluation nights. Volunteers  will help as registrars, uniform sizers, height takers, cashiers, and drill evaluators.

Upward needs you, and we will teach you ALL you need to know about being a coach in the Upward League! Come check us out and join a great team! Mandatory Coaches Meetings will be held in the ROC on Saturday, October 14 from 9am-12pm OR Sunday, October 22 from 1-4pm. Everyone who has volunteered to be a coach or assistant coach with Upward is required to attend one of these meetings. Please RSVP to [email protected] with which meeting you will attend.

Upward needs referees - and we will teach you ALL you need to know! A Referee Training and Meeting will be held on Saturday, January 6 at 9am-12pm in the ROC. Everyone who has volunteered to be a referee with Upward is required to attend this meeting. Part of the training will be to give simple on-the-court scenarios through a Jr. Division Scrimmage at 11am.

Upward practices will begin the first week of December on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Redlanders, this is your time to connect with the many families that come for weekly basketball and cheer practices! You may volunteer as a gym host or just come and visit and join the fun!

Upward Game Days begin in January! Come out to watch some awesome kids play some great basketball and lead us in awesome cheers! Join us on Friday nights or Saturdays to catch a game, be part of the fun, and connect with the families that come to our campus and show them God's love. We also need volunteers for score-keeping, game day concessions, set-up and clean-up, half-time devotionals, and more!

Upward “Tip Off” Sunday: We will have a beginning of the season "Tip Off" Worship on Sunday, January 7 at 11am followed by a celebration lunch in the ROC. Come meet players, coaches, and their families.
